Control4 is pleased to announce the release of the Wireless Fireplace Switch.  This new product makes it easy to integrate control of standard gas fireplaces into any Control4®-based home, enhancing comfort and convenience.

This new product installs next to the fireplace in the wall like a common light switch, but communicates wirelessly to interact with other Control4® devices in the home.  It enables homeowners' to have fireplace control from any Navigator.  It complements the existing range of Control4® lighting and Keypad products that can be installed easily  in existing or new homes, features a wide array of control capabilities via 2-way radio frequency (RF) ZigBee communication, and provides unmatched value.

Like the recently-announced lighting and Keypad model updates, the Wireless Fireplace Switch natively uses the ZigBee Pro standard for RF communication between devices.  This corresponds to Control4's recently-released system software release 1.8, which migrates the broad Control4® solution to utilize ZigBee Pro and positions Control4 to expand interoperability, cementing our vision to become the platform for the digital home.

Product Transition and Dates

 
Transition:
The Wireless Fireplace Switch is a new product and does not replace any existing product.

It can be used in all new installations using the recently-released software  version 1.8.  It can also be mixed with existing installations. When mixed, the project must be updated to the 1.8 software release with ZigBee Pro.

System Requirements:

• Control4® software release 1.8 is required to use this new product.
• These new models require ZigBee Pro, and cannot be used with software release 1.7.x or earlier software versions.

How is this product different than the Control4® Wireless Switch?

The Wireless Fireplace Switch looks like a light switch, but it is specifically designed and must be used to control gas fireplaces.  Rather than switching high-voltage loads, the Fireplace Switch provides a low-voltage relay closure to turn gas fireplaces on and off.  In addition, a control interface for the fireplace is provided under the Comfort menu in Navigator (rather than under lighting).

Does it provide control of the fireplace blower?

No. The Wireless Fireplace Switch is specifically for on/off control of the burner.  The blower on most gas fireplaces can be controlled via a separate Control4® Wireless Switch, which switches 120VAC loads.

What are the power requirements for the Wireless Fireplace Switch?

Because the Wireless Fireplace Switch is a communicating device with the Control4® system, it is most often powered via standard 120VAC power inside the junction box in the wall.  Alternatively, it can be powered via Class 2 low-voltage using the Control4® 24V Keypad Power Supply.  The connection to the fireplace uses a 2-wire low-voltage dry contact.  Note:  When combining high and low-voltage in the same junction box, special safety regulations must be followed.  See the Control4® Wireless Fireplace Switch Installation Guide for details.

Can I install the Wireless Fireplace Switch in homes with previous models of lighting and Keypad products?

Yes, but the home must be upgraded to software version 1.8 so that all devices are using ZigBee Pro.  The Wireless Fireplace Switch, like the recently released model updates to Control4® lighting and Keypad products, natively communicates via ZigBee Pro and is not compatible with software release 1.7.x and earlier versions of ZigBee.

Does the Wireless Fireplace Switch require its own driver?

The driver for the Wireless Fireplace Switch is provided in software release  1.8.  This driver provides an interface for on/off fireplace control under the comfort section of any Navigator interface.
